Hard Disk Category

Cmdlets are usually implemented around resource operations. The four basic operations are CREATE, READ, UPDATE and DELETE. This set of operations is known as CRUD. Most of the cmdlets support CRUD which are respectively cmdlets that start with the New/Get/Set/Remove cmdlet verbs but they also may have additional operations

Step 1: Retrieve a object by running a Get command

You can READ objects by using Get-HardDisk cmdlet. See example below:

# Retrieves the hard disks of the virtual machine named VM.

Get-HardDisk -VM VM

Step 2 : Run commands from the CRUD group

You can CREATE objects by using New-HardDisk cmdlet. See example below:

# Adds a new hard disk to the VM virtual machine in a persistent mode with capacity of 100 GB.

$vm = Get-VM VM $vm | New-HardDisk -CapacityGB 100 -Persistence persistent
You can UPDATE objects by using Copy-HardDisk cmdlet. See example below:

# Retrieves the hard disks of a virtual machine and copies them into the storage1 root folder.

Get-HardDisk -VM $vm | Copy-HardDisk "[Storage1]/"
You can REMOVE objects by using Remove-HardDisk cmdlet. See example below:

# Removes the hard disks of the virtual machine stored in the $vm variable.

Get-HardDisk -VM $vm | Remove-HardDisk

Step 3: Explore More Related Commands:

Move-HardDisk This cmdlet moves a hard disk from one location to another.
Set-HardDisk This cmdlet modifies the properties of the specified virtual hard disk.
